At Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), we are seeking a skilled Optical Communications Systems Software Engineer to contribute to the development of cutting-edge photonic applications leveraging FPGAs and microprocessors for synchronization of distributed systems and optical communications.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on projects in optical communications, precision synchronization, and control of advanced photonic systems for state-of-the-art applications. Key responsibilities include supporting the development of digital control systems, reading and designing schematics for subsystems, and communicating results through writing and slides.

To succeed in this position, you will require a strong background in computer or electrical engineering, physics, or a related technical discipline, as well as 3+ years of experience developing firmware and software for optical communications and precision synchronization applications. A Master's degree in a relevant field and 5+ years of experience are preferred qualifications.

We offer a competitive salary range of $125,000 - $175,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
