Work Schedule: The Municipal Code Compliance Officer will operate on a 4/10 work schedule, typically from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. This role requires significant fieldwork and may involve working during weekends and evenings.

Position Purpose:

Under general supervision, the Municipal Code Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring adherence to municipal codes and regulations. This includes conducting inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions related to various public nuisances, zoning issues, illegal business operations, and property maintenance concerns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough field investigations and surveillance of properties to identify potential violations.
  • Issue citations for infractions related to public nuisances, including zoning violations, litter, and abandoned vehicles.
  • Effectively communicate and explain relevant municipal codes and ordinances to the public.
  • Research and interpret city codes, conduct on-site investigations, and issue notices of violations as necessary.
  • Maintain detailed records and logs of case information and interactions with the public.
  • Provide customer service and respond to inquiries regarding code compliance and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other city departments and attend public meetings to present findings and recommendations.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with additional coursework in public administration or urban planning being advantageous. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required. Candidates should have at least two years of experience in municipal enforcement or related fields.

  • Strong knowledge of municipal codes and regulations.
  • Ability to manage case loads effectively and issue violation notices.
