Our GNC team is engaged in the design, construction, and testing of spacecraft subsystems for a variety of DoD, NASA, and commercial clients.

We are pioneers in providing innovative solutions to the rapidly evolving fields of space-based autonomous rendezvous and docking, as well as the swift design and production of small satellites.

Spacecraft GNC analysis engineers will collaborate within the GNC subsystem team and are expected to:

Design, analyze, and fine-tune spacecraft attitude and position control loops utilizing time and frequency domain methodologies
Design, analyze, and refine sequential filters (e.g., Kalman filters) for attitude determination and relative navigation
Develop, test, and validate flight algorithms for the GNC subsystem and assist in flight software qualification testing
Evaluate and test the spacecraft GNC subsystem performance using simulations and other analytical tools
Conduct analyses to support early design phase concept development, including actuator sizing and placement, sensor selection and placement, attitude and position guidance, rendezvous, proximity operations, docking analyses, and performance predictions
Create simulation models for sensors (e.g., star tracker, rate gyro, accelerometer, GPS, magnetometer, sun sensors), actuators (e.g., reaction wheel, torque bar, thruster, CMG), system dynamics (e.g., rigid body, multi-body, orbit mechanics, flexible models, propellant slosh), and the space environment (e.g., atmospheric, solar radiation pressure, third-body gravity, geopotential)
Effective communication is essential in this role, and all GNC engineers are expected to:
Apply engineering principles, industry standards, company processes, and knowledge of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, classical/modern control, and estimation theory to achieve advanced program/project objectives
Document designs, analyses, and test outcomes while creating presentation materials
Present designs, analyses, and test results to both internal and external stakeholders
Collaborate effectively within small to medium-sized teams
We are looking for junior, mid-level, and senior engineers with the qualifications outlined above.

BS Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Math with a minimum of 14 years of professional experience (12 years with a Master's, or 9 years with a Ph.D.).

BS Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Math with at least 9 years of professional experience (7 years with a Master's, or 4 years with a Ph.D.).

Principal Level :
BS Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Math with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience (3 years with a Master's, or 0 years with a Ph.D.).
Active Top Secret clearance (SCI preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
MS or PhD degree in engineering, physics, or math
Minimum overall GPA of 3.25
Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++
Experience in spacecraft GNC subsystem design, analysis, and testing
Experience implementing GNC algorithms on embedded systems
Prior work experience in a related field
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, version control tools such as SVN or Git
Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering, digital transformation tools such as the Atlassian suite.
Previous/current membership or leadership roles in professional groups, clubs, or extracurricular activities is desired
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Salary Range:
$87,600 - $131,400

Salary Range 2:
$156,000 - $234,000

The above salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
