Job Overview

Under the guidance of the Transportation Manager, the Heavy Haul Truck Operator is primarily tasked with the secure and efficient management of over-the-road dump trucks and trailers for various applications. This includes the transportation and disposal of aggregates and excavated materials for commercial excavation, earth moving, site preparation, road construction, and utility projects. Operators are also responsible for loading, securing, and relocating heavy machinery between different job sites.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safely and effectively operate a well-maintained 8 axle dump truck and trailer/side dump.
  • Transport sand and gravel products to customer job sites, including pits and plants.
  • Distribute and stockpile materials as per instructions.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections for mechanical issues and safety concerns.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work/rest periods and driving mileage.
  • Adhere to truck driving regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, and break periods) along with company policies and procedures.
  • Position trucks for loading or unloading operations.
  • Gather and confirm delivery instructions.
  • Report any defects, accidents, or violations promptly.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Valid CDL Class A license is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 2 years of proven truck driving experience.
  • Clean driving record with no moving violations.
  • Proficient in using GPS and other navigation systems.
  • Willingness to undergo background/drug screenings and provide previous employment documentation.
Work Environment: Work is conducted in the field, typically in the right-of-way on streets and roads. The role involves driving the dump truck, lifting heavy materials, and working in close proximity to heavy machinery and hazardous materials.

Physical Requirements: The job is performed outdoors in various weather conditions. It requires physical activities such as balancing, climbing, kneeling, lifting up to 100 pounds, pushing, pulling, reaching, stooping, and walking. Ability to lift 50 lbs overhead is necessary. The role may occasionally involve entry into confined spaces.
