About the Role

Ochsner Health is seeking a skilled Medical Coding Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our coding team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of patient data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assign ICD-10 codes within established coding guidelines, rules, and regulations.
  • Ensure data integrity of coded patient records by reviewing medical documentation and validating that documentation is sufficient to support assigned codes.
  • Act as a resource by researching patient accounts in response to questions and/or errors.
  • Collaborate with the CDI nurse to identify query opportunities for documentation improvement and to ensure accurate DRG assignment.
  • Work in collaboration with team members and other departments to meet departmental monthly goals.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years of coding experience.
  • Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
