Senior Engineer for H-53 Communication Systems

Position Overview

SAIC is in search of a Principal Systems Engineer to deliver engineering and programmatic support to the Level 3 Avionics Integrated Product Team (IPT) within the NAVAIR H-53 Multi-Mission Helicopter Program, PMA-261. This role involves the procurement, integration, testing, and maintenance of communication systems for H-53 clientele. Key products include AMS, DCU/BFD, MFDs, flight control computers, health monitoring systems, CDU, IPC, MFCU, and ADTS.

This is a remote opportunity with occasional travel obligations.

The selected candidate will also assist the government IPT in supervising tasks executed by contracted entities and external agencies. Functionally, this role reports to the Level 3 IPT lead, platform Class Desk, and Chief Engineer. Daily systems tasks will be assigned by the Level 3 IPT Lead. The chosen applicant will gather, organize, and interpret technical engineering data related to aircraft communication systems, acquisition, and product programs. Responsibilities include performing various engineering tasks that pertain to the development, operation, evaluation, and enhancement of communication systems supportability and maintainability programs, as well as technical evaluation and identification of communication system program requirements and resources. The candidate will collect, compile, analyze, investigate, research, or apply systems engineering data and information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in regular IPT status meetings, offering engineering insights and technical evaluations on discussed topics.
  • Participate in contractor-led Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR) for new product designs and in Technical Information Meetings as the engineering representative for the IPT Lead.
  • Facilitate IPT reviews of vendor-recommended Engineering Change Proposals and related technical directives.
  • Coordinate the consolidation of engineering data to support Interim Flight Clearance requirements and facilitate reviews by NAVAIR Technical Area Experts (TAEs).
  • Conduct government-level assessments of vendor specification documents to ensure compliance with industry and government standards.
  • Review vendor Notices of Quality Escapement for out-of-specification impacts on aircraft and systems operation, providing recommendations for waiver or variance status.
  • Contribute technical input to engineering investigations into root cause analyses for equipment failures.
  • Address action items assigned by the IPT lead or Engineering leadership concerning platform communications work.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in communications systems engineering, systems architecture, and design.
  • Possession of an ACTIVE Secret security clearance is required; Interim clearance may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous civilian or military aviation experience (as an operator or maintainer) with Communications Systems on the CH-53E and/or CH-53K helicopters will greatly benefit the candidate in fulfilling the responsibilities of this position.
  • Familiarity with the NAVAIR command structure, either through military or civilian exposure, is advantageous.
  • An understanding of military aircraft principles and structure is desirable.

Compensation: Target salary range is $120,001 - $160,000, reflecting the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
