As a Respiratory Care Specialist - Registered Therapist, your mission will be to collaborate with your colleagues to deliver the highest standard of care to those who rely on our expertise.

Inside Hoag's Respiratory Care Department

In your role as a Respiratory Care Specialist, your primary duties will encompass:

- Executing all respiratory care procedures for the treatment of pulmonary diseases and disorders, in compliance with all necessary licenses, certifications, and regulatory standards.
- Conducting bedside diagnostic evaluations and assessments to determine the severity of pulmonary impairments.
- Overseeing and managing mechanical ventilation and artificial airways.
- Participating in emergency situations related to cardiac or respiratory arrest and assisting with intubation procedures.
- Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of departmental standard operating protocols, including the utilization of specialized equipment, quality control measures, and preventive maintenance practices.
- Demonstrating professionalism in communication, appearance, and conduct.
- Supporting the mission of the department and engaging in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- The position may require travel between various Hoag Hospital locations and its affiliates.
- Performing additional responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care, Health Services Management, or related fields is preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Respiratory Care Specialist in an acute care setting is preferred.
License Required
  • Current license to practice respiratory care issued by the Respiratory Care Board of California.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential verified and granted by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC), must remain current throughout employment.
Certifications Required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Department certification in arterial puncture, arterial blood gas analysis, and ECG performance.
Certifications Preferred
  • Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS), Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS), Certified or Registered Pulmonary Function Testing (CPFT or RPFT).
  • STABLE Certification.
