Job Title: Tax Director

This is a critical role within Volvo Car Corporation, responsible for leading the corporate income tax function for US entities. The successful candidate will have a broad range of tax expertise, including tax accounting, sales & use taxes, property taxes & indirect taxes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of tax professionals to broaden their knowledge and develop their skills.
  • Work closely with the VP of Government Affairs to stay current on new and proposed legislation and provide timely guidance on the impact to Volvo Cars US entities.
  • Stay current on new and proposed legislation and advise upper management of the impact to Volvo Cars US and our foreign parent.
  • Take ownership of special new projects impacting our business and work closely with various business departments to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with the Global Tax Team in Sweden to address any new legislation that impacts the US market and provide advice on the tax effect of new business initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Finance group to identify areas that will impact the Tax Department.
  • Oversee the preparation of the Consolidated Federal Income Tax Return and over 50 State/Local Franchise tax returns for US entities.
  • Manage Federal & State tax audits & minimize any audit adjustments.
  • Oversee all tax accounting & reporting processes for US entities.
  • Oversee the preparation of taxable income projections and cash tax forecasts.
  • Closely monitor business operations for transfer pricing risks and ensure we operate consistent with the methodology outlined in our Transfer Pricing Policy.
  • Manage our outside consultants who file our sales and use tax, property tax & indirect filings.
  • Work with outside consultants to claim various Federal & State Tax Credits/Incentives for Volvo Cars US entities (Job Development Credits, Work Opportunity Tax Credits, etc.).
  • Work with outside consultants to incorporate the Volvo Car Financial Services (VCFS) leasing portfolio into VCUSA's Federal and State income tax returns, as well as collaborate with VCFS to optimize the lease portfolio depreciation and EV Tax Credit strategies.
  • Monitor business operations for any tax risks & provide tax savings advice where possible.
  • Recommend ways to streamline operations to drive improved efficiencies.
  • Work closely with the Customs Dept. to support tariff strategy ideation and implementation.
Requirements:
  • 15 years of diversified tax experience in industry and/or Big 4.
  • Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in Accounting or Taxation.
  • Certified Public Accountant.
  • Excellent experience overseeing a Corporate Tax Department & mentoring tax professionals.
  • In-depth experience in Federal & State Tax Compliance matters.
  • Experience in transfer pricing, international tax matters, tax audits, Sales & Use taxes & property taxes.
  • Excellent tax accounting knowledge.
  • Proven collaboration skills with other business leaders to keep abreast of business initiatives and address any potential tax issues/opportunities with concrete solutions.
  • Proven ability to streamline operations and improve use of technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree with an emphasis in Accounting or Taxation.

This is a hybrid role with an expected in-office presence at our Ridgeville South Carolina office a minimum of 3 days a week.
