Quality Assurance Specialist

Position Summary:
The Schwebel Baking Company is in search of a Quality Assurance Specialist to support our operations in Youngstown, Ohio. This role will lead efforts to monitor and elevate quality standards for our products. The successful candidate will conduct, review, and supervise various assessments and evaluations to meet the Company's quality benchmarks and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities will also include ensuring adherence to customer quality expectations and compliance audits. This position will involve daily collaboration with production supervisors, sanitation teams, maintenance, shipping, and various administrative personnel. A comprehensive understanding of food quality, customer satisfaction, safety protocols, and relevant regulations is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all products meet Schwebel's quality standards through various processing, visual inspections, and quality control audits. Conduct regular walkthroughs during shifts to verify product quality and safety.
  • Inspect products for compliance with FDA and/or ODA regulations as well as FSSC 22000 third-party certification standards.
  • Collaborate with all departments to implement Schwebel's Quality Programs in accordance with FSSC, GFSI, and customer standards. Report and take necessary actions to prevent food safety, regulatory, or quality issues from arising. Propose updates to Quality Programs as needed.
  • Generate, monitor, and distribute quality, food safety, or regulatory reports to relevant stakeholders. Take necessary actions to avert any related issues. Assist in developing additional metrics and reports.
  • Ensure all products and machinery operate within specified requirements. Communicate concerns to the appropriate department leaders.
  • Assist the Corporate Quality Assurance Manager in coordinating meetings with regulatory bodies, customers, or stakeholders as required.
  • Address customer inquiries and expectations. Analyze customer feedback, concerns, and data trends to identify areas for improvement.
  • Engage positively with all levels of staff to enhance productivity and minimize compliance issues.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure that all employees adhere to safety protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree preferred; High school diploma required.
  • At least two years of experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • A minimum of two years in food manufacturing or a similar role within Quality Control.
  • Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP, and FSSC Standards.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of management and staff.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while supporting company values.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and possess a valid driver's license.

Additional Requirements:
This position operates in both an office and manufacturing environment. It may require varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to travel to remote locations as necessary.
Must be capable of working in proximity to operating equipment in a manufacturing setting.
Physical requirements include standing, walking, and sitting for a combined total of 8 or more hours daily, as well as bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping, climbing, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
