Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Radiation Oncology Nurse, you will provide direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act.

  • Utilize therapeutic communication in daily practice.
  • Maintain a safe therapeutic environment.
  • Identify nursing issues as they relate to the individual needs of the patient.
  • Plan individualized patient care while employing an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Deliver care and coordinate participation that aligns with the hospital's mission and vision.
  • When acting in a charge nurse capacity, oversee day-to-day activities to ensure quality patient care in a therapeutic environment.
  • Assign staff based on patient needs, acuity, and staff skills. Serve as a role model and clinical resource for the team.
  • Respond promptly to requests for information or follow-up with physician, staff, or patient concerns.

Responsibilities in this Role:

  • Evaluate patients throughout their radiation treatment journey and educate them on potential side effects and care management.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Schedule diagnostic and/or radiation treatment planning exams.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions as appropriate.
  • Act as the primary coordinator of the multidisciplinary team to ensure well-coordinated patient care.
  • Implement and document physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patients' discharge planning needs with the multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications Required:

  • Current BLS certification upon hire; ACLS preferred.
  • TN RN Licensure or compact state licensure.
  • Minimum of 1 year of RN experience; critical care experience preferred.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or BMT Certified Nurse preferred.
