Position Overview:

The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing all aspects of General Ledger and Accounts Payable operations. This role ensures that all financial reporting aligns with company policies, regulatory standards, and generally accepted accounting principles. The Controller plays a vital role in achieving company goals as a member of the management team, collaborating with accounting staff, other departments, and external professionals to manage daily accounting functions, including financial reporting, revenue auditing, budgeting, and cash management.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead the organization’s G/L and A/P accounting functions, including reviewing subsidiary journals and journal entries during month-end close.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all financial reporting and data.
  • Review financial reports produced by the department, including monthly financial statements and reporting required by various agreements.
  • Engage with operational managers regarding financial performance, fiscal accountability, and solutions to financial challenges.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls and company policies to comply with regulatory standards and accounting principles.
  • Oversee the preparation and distribution of monthly financial statements and coordinate financial analysis on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Support the Accounts Payable Supervisor, General Accounting Manager, and Revenue Audit Manager in fulfilling their departmental responsibilities.
  • Monitor operational budgets to assess and analyze variances in projected revenues, expenses, and profits.
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process and review monthly financial statements and internal controls.
  • Guide and mentor direct reports in their roles, ensuring proper training and performance.
  • Communicate with senior management regarding financial decisions and issues.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field, along with three (3) years of management experience is required.
    • Alternatively, seven (7) years of management experience is acceptable.
    • Or five (5) years of management experience specifically with Creative Financial Staffing.
  • A minimum of five (5) years in an accounting management role is required.
  • Seven (7) years of accrual accounting experience, including four (4) years in gaming accounting, is required.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, FASB, GASB, and fixed asset accounting is essential; an accounting skills assessment will be conducted.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Outlook is required; a skills assessment will be administered.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in operating a 10-Key calculator and typing accurately on a computer keyboard.
  • Experience with various accounting systems, including payables, GL, and payroll, is required; familiarity with Great Plains and FRx Reporting is preferred.
  • Strong written communication skills with experience in report writing and data summarization are essential.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills in reconciling accounts and cash flow projections are required.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and maintain attention to detail is crucial.
  • Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as necessary.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Occupational License as required by regulatory standards.
