Position Overview

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will deliver direct patient care, education, and support within a specialized clinic environment. You will act as a clinical and community resource, educator, and consultant, coordinating and providing care for patients according to detailed treatment protocols established by physicians, without the need for direct supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care in an outpatient specialty clinic, maintaining advanced knowledge of specific diagnoses, medications, and treatment options. Assess the effectiveness of care in collaboration with the physician.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for patients and their families, which may include 24-hour on-call responsibilities. Utilize critical thinking and advanced knowledge to manage most concerns while involving physicians when necessary.
  • Triaging current patients and incoming referrals, prioritizing office visit scheduling and testing in collaboration with the physician. Communicate any changes in scheduling to the medical team.
  • Assist with in-office procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Identify educational needs of patients and families, collaborating with team members and community resources to meet these objectives. Develop and maintain educational materials that promote adherence to treatment plans.
  • Ensure patient safety by maintaining a secure environment and conducting regular safety rounds in accordance with patient care standards.
  • Lead the development and implementation of orientation programs for new staff, ensuring they are well-prepared to provide safe and effective care. Define competencies for the specialty and evaluate staff proficiency annually.
  • Collaborate with team members to design and implement educational programs and seminars within the community and Prisma Health. Act as a resource for colleagues and hospital staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Reflect on and evaluate your nursing practice against professional standards, guidelines, and regulations, maintaining competency through ongoing education and professional development.
  • Gain knowledge of clinical supply costs and personnel resource allocation to promote cost-effective outcomes.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not involve management responsibilities and will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Nursing required.

Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience in the specialty area.

Required Certifications

Registered Nurse (RN) license is mandatory.

Alternative Experience

In lieu of 1 year of registered nurse experience, 1 year of licensed practical nurse (LPN) experience will be accepted.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification in the specialty area is preferred.
