Job Summary

This position is accountable for providing clinical and technical support procedures, assisting nurses and medical staff to ensure quality care, and performing clerical, communication, and other related duties to facilitate the efficient functioning of the Care Center services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with MWHC/ED staff, nursing, and physicians to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Assist nurses in collecting patient data and specimens, and perform designated patient care procedures.
  • Participate in unit and MWHC infection control plan and performance improvement process.
  • Assist the Manager with Regulatory Readiness as needed.
  • Facilitate communication between diagnostic/testing area, patient care area, and families.
  • Perform clerical responsibilities using the hospital's information systems.
  • Respond to patient call light system and communicate patient and family requests to appropriate personnel.
  • Function as a customer-friendly unit receptionist for associates, physicians, patients, family, and visitors.
  • Perform venipuncture, start IVs, phlebotomy, and specimen collection with proper labeling and transporting of specimens.
  • Apply cardiac monitor, perform 12-lead EKG, and setup sterile trays for suturing and sterile procedures.
  • Insertion of foley catheter when appropriate, documentation of intake and output, and perform splinting and/or application of orthopedic adjuncts per physician orders.
Qualifications
  • High School/GED required.
  • Current Virginia State EMT Certification and/or National Registry required.
  • AHA CPR certification required.
  • One (1) year EMT, military corpsman, or clinical-related experience preferred.
  • AHA ACLS, PALS certification preferred.
