We are seeking a highly skilled Interdisciplinary General Engineer/Physical Scientist to join our team at the Department of Energy. As a senior safety and health advisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the management of safety and environmental stewardship.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and evaluate short- and long-term safety goals, objectives, measures, and targets.
- Perform safety duties that include Operational and Occupational Safety, Construction Safety, Biosafety, Industrial Hygiene, and Radiological Safety.
- Provide technical advice and assistance ensuring the adequacy, consistency, and completeness of contract metrics.
- Conduct assessments and investigations to confirm performance of safety systems in meeting established safety and mission requirements.
- GS-14 and above are required to submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, Executive Branch Personnel Confidential.
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- This employer participates in the e-Verify program.
- Selected candidates may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- This position does not support 100% remote work.
Basis Requirement for General Engineer (0801):
- Engineering degree from an accredited institution.
- Combination of education and experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering.
Basis Requirement for Physical Scientist (1301):
- Physical science, engineering, or mathematics degree from an accredited institution.
- Combination of education and experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering.
- GS-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service.
- GS-14: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) in the Federal service.
Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations.
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
