Position Objective:
The Wastewater Maintenance Technician III is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and installing mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems at treatment plants and pump stations. This role requires a high level of expertise and may involve leading the work of other technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough inspections and perform troubleshooting on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems to identify necessary repairs.
- Estimate time and material costs for assigned tasks.
- Dismantle equipment to access and repair defective components using various hand and power tools.
- Fabricate devices and assemblies from steel as needed.
- Utilize welding, threading, and soldering techniques to ensure equipment is reassembled and tested for safe operation.
- Inspect and diagnose issues with flow meters, gauges, and related controls.
- Take corrective actions as per established procedures and report any malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Perform facility maintenance, including replacing or installing damaged components.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and minor adjustments on various machinery.
- Report operational issues with machinery requiring warranty or external service.
- Calibrate portable meters for various measurements, including pH and dissolved oxygen.
- Engage in manual labor, including cleaning and waste disposal in accordance with safety policies.
- Operate vehicles for operational purposes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
This position is primarily based in an operational environment, with 25-35% of the time spent outdoors. Employees may be required to travel for training and may participate in a rotational 24-hour emergency on-call schedule.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience in a similar role.
- Proficient in using various tools and equipment, including power and manual tools.
- Familiarity with material handling equipment and precision measurement instruments.
Skills and Abilities:
Candidates should possess a general understanding of building mechanics, the ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and basic mathematical skills. Proficiency in the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is essential. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team are also required.
Certifications:
A valid driver's license is mandatory, with a commercial license and heavy equipment operator license preferred.
Physical Requirements:
This role involves standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Candidates must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces as necessary.
