Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Westinghouse Electric Company. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for performing design and analyses for the repair, modification, and qualification of components within the primary pressure boundary of Westinghouse designed nuclear power plants.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform design and analyses for the repair, modification, and qualification of components within the primary pressure boundary of Westinghouse designed nuclear power plants.
  • Use analysis tools, such as finite element simulations (e.g., Ansys) and hand calculations to qualify component design.
  • Work with other component, system, and manufacturing leads on the integration of subsystems and work through emergent design issues.
  • Work with project managers and subsystem/component leads to develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Identify and define technical issues, risks, and challenges, and direct efforts to successful resolution.
  • Bring engineering rigor to the resolution of problems that are sometimes loosely or only partially defined, requiring knowledge and experience within the given discipline.
  • Incorporate the use of industry, regulatory, or NRC/DOE/ASME codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to nuclear reactors in design activities.
  • Provide technical guidance, direction, and collaborate with other personnel, including partners such as national laboratories, sub-contractors, suppliers, fabricators, and customers.
  • Support plant refueling outages (both on-site and remotely), including stretches of 12-hour shift work and overnight work due to time sensitivity.

Requirements:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or Aerospace Engineering (MS is a plus).
  • Alternate degrees such as nuclear engineering, structural engineering, or materials science, etc., will be considered with component design experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of applicable experience.
  • Component structural analysis required; 6+ years preferred.
  • Experience with ASME Section III and Section XI criteria preferred.
  • Successful completion of the EIT exam required.
  • Licensed professional engineer preferred.
  • Experience with FEA and ANSYS/ABAQUS preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and display a strong attention to detail.
  • Nuclear plant primary systems knowledge preferred.
