Job Summary:

Eugene Butler, Private Investigator is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Research Investigator to join our team. As a Research Investigator, you will be responsible for conducting thorough research on cases, including criminal investigations, and providing support to licensed professional investigators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough research on cases, including criminal investigations, and gather evidence through OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence), FOIA (Freedom of Information Act), and social media searches.
  • Review and analyze police reports, witness statements, and relevant documents to identify key information.
  • Identify, locate, and interview witnesses to support defense strategies.
  • Visit, photograph, and diagram locations to prepare investigative reports and trial exhibits.
  • Maintain detailed case files and collaborate with team members to align with company objectives.
  • Testify in trials and present findings as needed.
  • Provide support for licensed professional investigators in Michigan and other support staff.
  • Adhere to strict confidentiality standards pursuant to MCL and NDA requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, Law, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in research, investigation, or criminal defense.
  • Strong research, organizational, and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and research platforms.
  • Must be highly proficient in general computer use, internet research, and social media investigations.
  • Familiarity with investigative case management software, including Trackops or MyClient, is a plus.
  • Understanding of the Michigan criminal justice system and OSINT techniques.
  • Clear, effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to handle heavy caseloads and to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain focus during long periods of surveillance, often in urban, rural, or stationary settings.
  • Reliable access to an insured vehicle, valid driver's license, and willingness to travel statewide as needed.
  • Must be willing to obtain state licensing, pass a background check, and must not have any criminal history.
  • Notary commission is helpful; we will assist in obtaining one if necessary.
  • Past employment references will be required, and a background search will ensure the applicant meets all qualifications.
  • This position may develop into a hybrid role after 3 to 6 months of training at the main office, depending on progress.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish or Arabic) are highly desirable.

Preferred Experience:

  • Criminal defense investigations, indigent defense, racial equity, and pre-employment background investigations.
  • Knowledge of pre-texting and covert investigation techniques.
  • Experience preparing investigative memos and reports for trial exhibits.

Compensation:

$21 - $35 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and quality of work.
