Role Summary:

The Laboratory Support Specialist plays a crucial role in a certified clinical laboratory that focuses on advanced, automated DNA-based molecular diagnostics for chronic and infectious diseases. The laboratory specializes in Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing and is committed to research in areas such as Gynecology, Infectious Diseases, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and organize specimen deliveries efficiently.
  • Ensure accurate comparison of specimens against routing documentation.
  • Verify essential information on test requisition forms.
  • Match collection vials with requisition details for precision.
  • Identify and rectify discrepancies in documentation.
  • Utilize laboratory management systems effectively.
  • Compile and maintain all paperwork associated with specimens.
  • Accession a variety of specimen types including blood, urine, and biopsies.
  • Document and photograph specimens for quality control.
  • Label specimens and requisition forms accurately.
  • Prepare and organize paperwork for digital scanning.
  • Sort and manage samples according to established protocols.
  • Assist in locating samples as requested by laboratory staff.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and documentation.
  • Ensure proper sanitation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Conduct routine checks and calibrations of laboratory instruments.
  • Prepare reagents and assist in microbiological testing.
  • Support administrative tasks as required.

Additional Duties:

  • Assist laboratory personnel with daily operations and tasks as assigned.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines while handling laboratory materials.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of all customer information.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and accountability in all responsibilities.
  • Proactively identify and resolve operational issues.
  • Exhibit productive work habits and maintain high standards of accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Training in Clinical Laboratory Accessioning.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
