Job Overview
BAE Systems USA is on the lookout for a dedicated Senior Mechanical Engineer who possesses a broad range of analytical skills and proven technical proficiency. This role involves the design, development, and integration/testing of dynamic electronic military systems. The engineer will collaborate closely with hardware integrated into various sophisticated countermeasure and electromagnetic attack solutions, including compact electronic warfare systems. A self-motivated individual with experience in developing integrated military electronic hardware and associated testing equipment is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be expected to work both independently and as part of a small, diverse team throughout critical phases of the product lifecycle, which encompasses concept development, detailed design, qualification, and transition to manufacturing. Responsibilities include:
- Creating robust hardware solutions that meet stringent customer specifications.
- Utilizing mechanical engineering expertise to conduct detailed design and analyses.
- Generating 3D solid models, drawings, and documentation while applying GD&T principles.
- Performing tolerance analyses to ensure fit and function.
- Conducting thermal, structural/stress, and vibration analyses.
- Assessing designs against environmental requirements.
- Producing prototypes to support testing and verification efforts.
Collaboration and Problem-Solving
This role emphasizes a product-focused approach, requiring active collaboration with other engineering disciplines and operations personnel to develop solutions that comply with UPC, DFT, and DFM standards. The engineer will also assist in resolving technical challenges that arise during the manufacturing and testing of deliverable hardware, which may involve:
- Evaluating and troubleshooting mechanical faults and issues.
- Identifying root causes of test failures and determining corrective actions.
- Designing test equipment to validate the performance and integrity of manufactured products.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in the following areas:
- Design, development, and analysis of electromechanical hardware and systems.
- Support for DoD military electronics/avionics equipment.
- Proficiency with advanced mechanical engineering design and development tools.
- Design and analysis of multilayer circuit card assemblies.
- Prototype development and testing.
- Hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation and processes.
- Familiarity with MIL specs and industry standards such as ASTM, SAE, and DO.
- Engineering documentation and presentation skills.

Education and Experience Requirements
Requires:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience (or 4 years with a master's degree).
- Demonstrated experience in product development and support for DoD military electronic equipment.
- Strong foundation in mechanical design, analysis, and documentation principles.
- Experience with state-of-the-art mechanical engineering development software tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated problem solver with a track record of success in diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficient in basic MS Office and technical programs.
- Knowledge of engineering development processes.
- Eligibility to obtain a DOD Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
- Experience with manufacturing, production, and sustainment of mechanical systems and hardware.
- Experience in the design and development of complex mechanical systems and hardware.
- Experience in the design and manufacture of electronic circuit card assemblies.
- Familiarity with ANSYS Workbench/Mechanical, PTC Creo, MATLAB/Simulink, Siemens NX, and ANSYS Icepak.
- Understanding of design for manufacturing (DFM) principles.
Compensation and Benefits
Full-Time Salary Range: $152,460. Please note that this range is based on market pay structures, and individual salaries are determined by various factors, including business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
