Position Title: Literacy Lead – Elementary School
Overview:
Real Options for City Kids (R.O.C.K.) is a distinguished nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children and youth in underserved communities. Our commitment is to foster the healthy growth of children by offering them access to a variety of enriching programs. At R.O.C.K., we support over 900 children (ages 6-17) through a framework that enhances social and emotional development, promotes strong academic habits, and expands their opportunities.
Job Summary: The Literacy Lead will primarily engage with students and staff at an elementary school setting. This role includes collaboration with a team of literacy professionals from partner institutions to enhance training and professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement literacy training frameworks for a team of literacy educators.
- Deliver high-quality professional development focused on effective literacy strategies and reading foundations.
- Demonstrate and instruct innovative literacy intervention techniques.
- Guide literacy staff in utilizing evidence-based assessments to tailor interventions for students.
- Analyze educational data to identify trends and assist educators in modifying instructional methods accordingly.
- Communicate literacy progress with organizational and school leadership.
- Oversee literacy partnerships, including organizing reading groups and monitoring student advancement.
- Participate in all literacy-related meetings and professional development sessions.
- Foster positive relationships with staff, students, educators, and families.
- Serve as a role model and leader for both children and staff.
- Assist in the planning of literacy-focused events and workshops.
- Engage in student performance data analysis and academic progress tracking.
- Implement positive discipline strategies and restorative practices when interacting with students.
- Ensure a safe and respectful learning environment.
- Attend regular staff meetings and program events.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in specialized literacy curricula.
- Understanding of the reading acquisition process in children.
- Demonstrated success in supporting struggling readers.
- Passion for working with underserved populations.
- Reliable transportation for program-related travel.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, or Samoan are advantageous.
- Completion of 48 college credits from an accredited institution or passing the Instructional Aide Exam.
- Proof of a negative TB screening within the last four years.
- Verification of COVID vaccinations and booster.
- Successful candidates will undergo a background check following a conditional offer.
