Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Regional Psychiatrist to join our team at the Department of Corrections. As a Regional Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for providing psychiatric assessment and treatment to mentally ill inmates. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to providing high-quality care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial and ongoing psychiatric assessments of inmates
  • Prescribe appropriate medication and/or mechanical measures to assist inmates in improving their behavior
  • Assist with preparation and modification of treatment plans and recommend and assign to appropriate programs
  • Provide supervision to psychiatric providers at the institution
Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an approved psychiatric residency program
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Virginia
  • Extensive knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat mentally ill inmates
  • Knowledge of professional and ethical standards of practice and interventions appropriate for the assigned population
  • Ability to function effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team
  • Strong communication skills - orally and in writing/email
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialty in Forensic or Addiction care
  • Board Certification
  • Experience providing mental health care in a correctional setting
