Histotechnologist - GMC - Full Time - Nights

We are seeking a skilled Histotechnologist to join our team at Geisinger Medical Laboratories. As a Histotechnologist, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care through innovative, efficient, and high-quality laboratory services.
Key Responsibilities- Process and prepare tissue specimens for examination by Pathologists.
- Identify and determine proper orientation of tissue specimens and embed specimens in paraffin to ensure proper alignment for sectioning.
- Perform microtomy at proper micron to render quality sections for diagnoses.
- Produce consistently good quality microscopic slides that can be readily reviewed and interpreted by the Pathologist.
- Perform routine and special staining procedures as required to distinguish cells and organisms for diagnostic examination.
- Maintain equipment, participate in established preventive maintenance program, and alert Analytical Specialist of any equipment problems.
- Assist in proper handling and storage of supplies, notify Analytical Specialist when inventory is low.
- Assist with department's Quality Improvement program through active participation in patient specimen identification and quality tracking measures.
- Assist in the evaluation and validation of new instruments and new technologies as needed.
- Participate in completion of assigned initial and subsequent competency assessment examinations required and maintains working knowledge of applicable Laboratory Information System programs and system changes.
- Participate in the training and orientation of new employees.
- Graduate from Specialty Training Program.
- Associate's Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of Laboratory experience preferred.
- Certified Histotechnician - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification required.
