Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lifeguard and Pool Safety Specialist to join our team at the YMCA of Snohomish County. As a key member of our aquatic team, you will be responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas, while creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area to ensure a safe environment for members.
  • Know, review, and follow all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately, completing related reports as required.
  • Develop and maintain positive, effective relationships with members, participants, and other staff, demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and perform chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required.
  • Actively prevent and address suspected abuse, maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all.
  • Remain alert and attentive at all times, with no lapses in focus.
  • Be able to sit or stand for extended periods, move about, and perform tasks that require physical stamina.
  • Able to hear noises and distinguish distress signals, communicate verbally, and project voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the smooth operation of the pool and aquatic area.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age 18.
  • Demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Current First Aid, CPRPRO (BLS), AED, and O2 certifications.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard or RLSS, CRC, ARC Lifeguard certification.
  • Ability to pass lifeguard water test, including swimming 500 yards, treading water for 2 minutes, and swimming underwater for 15 feet.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
  • Fluency in a second language desired.
