Job Overview

BDO USA, LLP is seeking an accomplished Global Tax Leader to spearhead our International Tax Services practice. This role demands exceptional technical expertise and business acumen to drive growth, foster strategic relationships, and build a high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tax Consulting:
  1. Develop innovative tax solutions for clients, leveraging market knowledge and technical skills.
  2. Ensure compliance with firm policies regarding written tax advice.
  3. Resolve complex taxation issues by applying multiple tax specialties.
  4. Communicate intricate technical matters to clients and relevant stakeholders.
Tax Specialization:
  1. Pursue in-depth understanding of international tax technicalities and opportunities.
  2. Establish industry expertise in international tax and serve as a U.S. resource for selected foreign jurisdictions.
  3. Manage international tax services provided to assigned clients, including pricing structure assessment.
  4. Identify tax alert opportunities and collaborate on drafting those alerts.
Marketing and Business Development:
  1. Demonstrate thought leadership in specialized areas within International Tax.
  2. Be recognized as the go-to person in International Tax within the industry group.
  3. Collaborate with Specialized Tax Services, International Tax Partners, Local Office Managing Partner, and local/Regional Business Development Manager to develop marketing strategies.
  4. Build effective go-to-market strategies with Assurance Partners.
Research:
  1. Identify situations requiring research, outlining the issue(s) and appropriate research source.
  2. Analyze researched facts and sources before composing detailed reports.
  3. Prepare Written Tax Advice (WTA) and confer with National Tax Office as needed.
Tax Compliance:
  1. Manage client engagements, reviewing international tax aspects of U.S. tax reporting and identifying complex issues.
  2. Leverage compliance role to identify additional international tax issues and opportunities.
Tax Controversy:
  1. Represent clients before U.S. tax authorities on international tax aspects of contested issues.
ASC 740-10:
  1. Apply standards, firm policies, and BDO Tax Quality Manual requirements.
  2. Review international aspects of tax provisions, coordinating with BDO colleagues in non-U.S. jurisdictions.
  3. Other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise day-to-day workload of International Tax Managers, Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns on assigned engagements.
  • Deliver performance feedback and complete evaluations for International Tax Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates.
  • Act as mentor to International Tax Managers, Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns as needed.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Education:
  1. Bachelor's degree, required; Accounting focus preferred.
  2. J.D., LLM, or MST/MBT, preferred.
Experience:
  1. Ten (10) or more years of corporate tax experience, international taxation, legal professional services, or equivalent experience through an advanced degree program, required.
  2. International Tax experience, required.
  3. Prior supervisory experience over tax professionals on project/engagement basis, required.
License/Certifications:
  1. CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (
