Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional patient care, demonstrating a proficient level of clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations and procedures, including preparing patients for examination and handing instruments to the provider.
  • Operate and monitor equipment, conduct hearing, vision, breathing, and EKG testing, and record results in patient charts.
  • Administer medications as directed, perform venipuncture, collect urine specimens, and complete lab tests procedures according to policies and procedures.
  • Recognize emergency situations, seek assistance, and intervene appropriately.
  • Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Participate in mandatory/continuing education and skills competency, supporting department-based goals and serving as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program or eligibility for certification by the American Medical Technologist (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Health career Association (NHA), or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP).
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or nationally registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Six (6) months of medical assistant experience or completion of a medical assistant externship required.

Working Conditions:

The Medical Assistant will work primarily a pre-determined schedule but may be required to work evenings or weekends depending on patient care needs. Ability to float to other clinic practices as needed is an expectation.
