The Agricultural Operations Supervisor is tasked with ensuring the optimal performance of both crop and livestock systems within the Center. This role involves collaborating with various faculty members who are conducting research at the centers, receiving their input and requests for work. The supervisor, in partnership with the department head, is responsible for prioritizing these research requests alongside ongoing operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
The Agricultural Operations Supervisor has the authority to schedule labor and resources to achieve the objectives of both research and production. Responsibilities include:
- Providing clear guidance on tasks, including limitations, quality expectations, deadlines, and priorities.
- Independently managing recurring assignments while seeking assistance from supervising faculty for complex or unfamiliar situations.
- Ensuring that the completed work meets the expected standards and methods.

Qualifications for Success:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Animal Science, or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of three years of experience in a diversified agricultural production environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Agronomy, Animal Science, or a relevant field.
- Five years of experience in large-scale agricultural operations.
- Proven skills in managing and supervising personnel.
- Vocational training in the safe and effective use of pesticides.
- Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written, with the ability to interpret detailed instructions and maintain accurate research and production records.
- Proficiency in operating both large and small agricultural machinery safely and effectively.
- Ability to identify plant diseases, weeds, and signs of pest infestations.
- Knowledge of pesticide hazards and the ability to interpret safety labels and instructions.
- Understanding of safety protocols related to the maintenance and operation of agricultural equipment and tools.
- Familiarity with planting methods and the ability to follow detailed planting plans.
- Capability to set up, calibrate, and operate precision agricultural technology.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles, including planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating employee work.
- Experience with geographic information systems for precision agriculture.
