Machining Engineer Job Description

This position is responsible for manufacturing and modification of mold parts, mold assembly/disassembly, and mold handling for our work orders. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing the following duties personally for customer satisfaction and team work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manufacture and modify mold parts to meet customer specifications
  • Assemble and disassemble molds for onsite trial and customer requests
  • Polish mold parts to polishing standards
  • Modify mold parts to meet customer requests, working with molding techniques engineers and mold design engineers
  • Operate CNC and manual machines for mold parts and machine parts
  • Perform maintenance and repair of CNC machines and equipment
  • Generate programs for CNC high-speed mill and CNC lathe on the machine controller and CAM
  • Setup and operate CNC and manual machines for molds parts and machine parts
  • Conduct training for in-house and customers
  • Generate training material
  • Communicate with outside vendors for mold and machine parts
  • Follow/execute production department road map
  • Execute maintenance of CNC machines and equipment
  • Generate SOP
  • Housekeeping to maintain the work area hazard-free, clean, neat, and orderly
Requirements:
  • Associates degree from technical school with machining concentration or at minimum one to two years related experience and/or training
  • Experience of CNC lathe and/or CNC high-speed machining center is preferred
  • Experience of G-code/M-code is preferred
  • Experience of Manual lathe, Manual mill, and surface grinding is preferred
  • Experience of Mold assembly, maintenance, polishing, and repair is preferred
Competencies:
  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters
  • Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available, anticipating needed stock, placing and expediting orders for stock, verifying receipt of stock
  • Programs mills, lathes, and EDM machines by entering instructions, including zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches
  • Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical publications
  • Maintain the machines and equipment for safety environment. Clean and organize machine shop for housekeeping.
