Job Summary

This is a part-time position for a Laboratory Assistant - Phlebotomy Specialist at Christus Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting blood specimens for laboratory tests on inpatients and outpatients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect blood specimens for laboratory tests using venipuncture or capillary puncture technique.
  • Perform various clerical tasks, including utilizing the Laboratory Information System for logging, receiving lab specimens, and preparing specimens for transport.
  • Answer telephones and provide necessary information to inquirers.
  • Print and attach cumulative summaries and pathology reports to patient charts.
  • Fax results and accession outpatient testing.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Formal phlebotomy training in a Medical Assistant Program or other hospital or military-based program.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience, or completion of a 6-week certified clinical training program.
  • Ability to work with computers, printers, and multi-line phones.
  • Knowledge of related tests for which blood is drawn, care of blood specimens, and procedures in blood collection.
  • Ability to perform venipuncture and capillary punctures.
  • Ability to perform clerical and computer-related functions.
  • Effective communication skills with professional staff and the public.
  • Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
