Role of Custodians:

Our Custodians play a vital role in maintaining a safe, appealing, and sanitary environment, ensuring that our facilities are fully utilized and productive. This is achieved through regular and specialized cleaning of campus buildings, moving furniture, and assisting with event setups. The primary focus is on employing effective methods and utilizing appropriate chemicals and materials to uphold cleanliness, aesthetics, and sanitation standards. The full-time Custodian typically works 40 hours per week and collaborates closely with supervisors, staff, and administration. This position is scheduled Monday - Friday from 4:00 PM to 1:00 AM.

Key Responsibilities:

The following duties outline the essential functions of this position. They are not exhaustive but provide a clear understanding of the role.

  • Perform dust mopping, sweeping, wet mopping, spray buffing, stripping, and refinishing of floors.
  • Vacuum, spot clean, and shampoo carpets.
  • Scrub and sanitize restroom fixtures, ensuring restrooms are stocked with soap and paper supplies.
  • Dust, clean, and wash walls, doors, windows, woodwork, and other elevated surfaces.
  • Empty trash receptacles.
  • Prepare rooms for conferences, lectures, and special events.
  • Assist with furniture relocation.
  • Notify supervisors of any equipment or facility repairs needed.
  • Perform related tasks as required and directed.
  • Help set up tables and chairs for events.
  • Secure college facilities.
  • Conduct deep cleaning activities as necessary.
  • May assist with painting during breaks.
Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. A valid driver's license is required.

Skills:
  • Ability to adhere to departmental operating and safety protocols.
  • Capability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength.
  • Proficiency in operating mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to operate a campus vehicle.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and clients.
  • Willingness to work overtime when necessary.
