Job Title: Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate

Job Summary:

The Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate will provide support and advocacy services to victims of domestic abuse, ensuring their safety and well-being. This role requires a strong understanding of domestic abuse dynamics and the ability to provide confidential and non-judgmental support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 24/7 response to victims of domestic abuse, offering support and guidance.
  • Establish and maintain safety plans for victims, working closely with treatment managers and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Family Advocacy Treatment Manager and Family Advocacy Intervention Specialist to ensure victim safety and well-being.
  • Develop and maintain contact files for each victim, containing essential information and a log of contacts.
  • Provide information and referrals to victims on military and civilian resources, including emergency shelter, housing, childcare, legal services, and clinical resources.
  • Offer follow-up services to victims, empowering them to advocate for their needs and make informed decisions.
  • Support victims in decision-making, prioritizing actions, and establishing short- and long-term goals.
  • Assist victims in accessing medical services, transitional compensation, and other necessary resources.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of installation DA policies and protocols.
  • Collaborate with the Family Advocacy Nurse and Family Advocacy Intervention Specialist to promote education about and prevention of domestic abuse.
  • Support the Family Advocacy Intervention Specialist in developing System Advocacy, Education, and Public Awareness initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling, Counseling or Behavioral Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum two years of experience assisting and providing advocacy services to victims of domestic abuse or sexual assault.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to clearly read, understand, speak, and write English.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Basic Advocate credential with designation of Comprehensive Intervention Specialist as approved by the National Advocate Credentialing Program.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
