About the Role

UofL Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Denials Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Revenue Cycle department, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate reimbursement from third-party payers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Initiate the appeal process for technical denials, working closely with the HIM Appeals Specialist for clinical appeals.
  • Review and determine the reason for insurance denial of claims, and develop appeal letters to substantiate overturning denial.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed denial inventory list, tracking and trending progress and outcomes of denial and appeal processes.
  • Work with insurance carriers on appeal issues, ensuring clinical appeals are submitted to the HIM department and monitoring payments for accuracy.
  • Stay up-to-date with payer updates for authorizations, eligibility, and communicate changes to Revenue Cycle leadership.
Requirements
  • High School education or GED required.
  • 1-3 years of prior billing, collection, or appeals experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, clear and concise written communication skills, and basic Microsoft Office knowledge.
