Job Summary

Codman Square Health Center seeks a visionary Clinical Excellence Leader to spearhead nursing excellence and drive exceptional health outcomes in our community. As the Chief Nursing Officer, you will lead a team of dedicated professionals in delivering integrated care that sets new standards for quality and patient satisfaction.

This exciting opportunity combines traditional outpatient nursing with Population Health and Care Management techniques. You will be accountable for nursing excellence and share responsibility for quality outcome measures, ensuring our patients receive comprehensive, holistic care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Nursing Leadership and Staff Development
    • Recruit, hire, and train a diverse nursing leadership team to drive clinical excellence and staff empowerment.
    • Audit and maintain standards of nursing practice, providing direction and support to staff to ensure efficient practice.
    • Effective communication with nursing staff is crucial, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes professional growth and development.
    • Promote best practices through mentoring, professional development, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
    • Establish job guidelines and accountability measures to uphold standards of nursing practice.
    • Analyze staff ratios to support service delivery, ensuring adequate support within all clinical departments.
    • Conduct timely performance reviews according to established guidelines, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Work with the CHRO to ensure pay equity and examine compensation structures.
    • Ensure increased nurse and medical assistant satisfaction and engagement through effective leadership and management strategies.
  • System Development and Implementation
    • Manage and monitor patient flow to optimize services and reduce wait times.
    • Direct the development and implementation of new programs and services aligned with organizational goals.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance services, revising them periodically to reflect changing needs.
    • Ensure client satisfaction by analyzing complaints, concerns, and suggestions, providing sound resolutions.
    • Develop strategies and improvements consistent with the quality improvement program.
    • Facilitate effective internal collaboration among medical, nursing, and all staff in delivering care.
    • Build cooperative and collaborative external relationships with the community, institutions, and other stakeholders.
  • Operations and Efficiency
    • Develop improved workflow patterns, including live triage and call center triage nursing functions.
    • Design scheduling protocols that support adequate coverage, patient access, practice efficiency, staffing support, and space utilization.
    • Evaluate volume budgets for nursing visits and develop innovative ways to capture billing opportunities.
    • Accountable for achieving or exceeding service line targets for nurse visits, driving business growth.
    • Evaluate and monitor schedule protocols against established benchmarks.
    • Assess practice capacity and capabilities for managing new contracts, grants programs, or services.
    • Develop reports and supporting data to ensure performance standards for the health center are met or exceeded in conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer.
    • Work with the CFO to review reimbursement procedures and systems (i.e., coding/encounters) that support efficient fiscal management.
    • Accountable for nursing department P&L (or statement of operations) performance to budget.
  • Accountable Care Goals
    • Oversee both Care management and Population Health nurse staffing to drive improved health outcomes.
    • Collaborate with the CIO to develop useful and timely reports for the clinical teams to manage patient panels.
    • Design and implement nursing programs to engage patients in their care, promoting self-management and empowerment.
    • Support and implement dyad and triad team structure for panel management with Medical and Operations leadership and staff.
    • Engage with local, regional, and national CNOs to share best practices and address critical issues.
  • Leadership and Partnership
    • Prepare and monitor budget, ensuring effective financial stewardship.
    • Determine capital, supply, equipment, and operating needs for assigned departments.
    • Strengthen the management of ordering and inventorying medical supplies and medication.
    • Participate in meetings and on committees to discuss clinical services goals, visions, and strategic plans.
    • Provide effective communication to staff on vision, goals, and procedures, fostering a culture of transparency and collaboration.
    • Act as a conduit for communication from staff to Executive Management, ensuring seamless lines of communication.
    • Lead the development of departmental initiatives designed to foster team development and maintain an outstanding customer service culture.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., JCAHO, DPH, etc.).
    • Oversight of grant-funded programs and infection control prevention.
    Qualifications
    • Prior supervision experience for Nurse Clinical Leaders across various specialties.
    • Proven expertise in hiring, disciplining staff, and championing timely performance reviews.
    • Demonstrated experience using reporting tools to leverage data to improve workflow, SOPs, and quality of care performance.
    • Represent nursing function in Executive Team settings.
    Requirements
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing required; Master of Science in Nursing preferred.
    • Current license to practice professional nursing-RN in Massachusetts required; previous leadership experience in diverse community health centers preferred.
    • Clinical experience and strong knowledge of Epic electronic health record.
    • Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, acting cooperatively and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
    • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, teamwork, and innovation.
    • Strong working knowledge of Excel.
    • Grants Management experience.
    • Physical Requirements:
      • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
      • Ability to lift 10-25 pounds.
