Emergency Department Technician

This position is responsible for providing high-quality patient care in the emergency department. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure.
Key Responsibilities- Obtain patients' vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, and report any changes to RNs or physicians.
- Collect blood, urine, saliva, and stool samples for laboratory analysis.
- Insert Foley catheters, perform straight catheters, and provide wound care.
- Fits patients for casts and/or hard splints, crutches, and other devices.
- Performs 12-lead EKGs.
- Provides instruments to doctors and nurses as they perform procedures on patients.
- Assists with the safe movement of patients, applying principles of safe patient handling.
- Assists with admitting patients into the ER, schedules patient transfers, and reinforces patient education/discharge instructions as given by the RN.
- Apply, check, and document restraints as directed by the RN or physician.
- Performs the duties of unit secretary, maintaining patient charts, responding to phone calls, maintaining daily assignment boards, providing equipment care/cleaning, and performing errands associated with patient care.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of Basic EMT training program or Paramedic Training is required in the state of practice.
- Current Basic EMT or Paramedic license in the state of practice is required.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval.
- Current IV Certification in the state of practice is required.
- One (1) year of related experience.
This position requires the ability to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. The employee must be able to verbally communicate and hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. The employee must also have the dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc. The employee must be able to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, and walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. The employee may be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time and perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.
