Job Summary

The Optical Bonding Specialist is a skilled assembler responsible for working on sub-assemblies that require optical bonding using various sealing compounds, wet and dry bonding agents, and adhesives in an ESD-controlled cleanroom environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs optical cleaning and bonding work on moderately complex assemblies using assembly tools and test equipment.
  • Assembles components and/or subassemblies in conformance to manufacturing traveler, drawing, and to quality standards.
  • Cleans and inspects work after completion of each operation and/or completed job to ensure it is complete and free of defects.
  • May perform rework/repairs.
  • Follows cleanroom protocol for gowning, cleaning, and contamination control.
  • Participates in problem-solving teams to develop process improvements.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • 3-5 years related industry experience required.
  • Previous lamination/bonding experience is a plus; comfortable with the preparation of wet and dry adhesives.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination needed for precision assembly.
  • Capability to use equipment such as microscopes, mechanical and electrical assembly tooling & fixtures, adhesive dispensers, tweezers, crimpers, cutters, and hand tools.
  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment that includes manual assembly and basic fabrication.
  • Knowledge of optical glass handling and inspection.
  • Previous cleanroom experience, preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrates good judgment for personal workmanship and requests support from lead person when required.
  • Willing to cross-train, i.e., across product lines, equipment, and various processes.
  • Must have a keen attention to detail and have excellent dexterity; strong hand and eye coordination.
  • Works cooperatively in a team environment and effectively communicates with others.
  • Willing to work extra hours during the normal work schedule and an occasional Saturday(s).
  • Should have a basic understanding of Lean principles, i.e., process improvement recommendations.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (over 50%).
  • Work with minor environmental discomforts including noise, breezy, warm, sticky, adhesive-covered.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. max and also hold and move product weighing 15 lbs. in/out of machinery on a regular basis (every few minutes for cleaning).
