Instructional Paraprofessional Job Summary

The Instructional Paraprofessional plays a vital role in shaping students' futures by providing individualized support and guidance. This position is responsible for mentoring small groups of students, reviewing material one-on-one, and assisting with instructional activities designed by the teacher.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver targeted support to students, reinforcing learning and promoting academic growth.
  • Monitor student work and supervise curriculum-based testing to ensure accurate assessment.
  • Provide tutoring and assist students with makeup work, helping them stay on track.
  • Help administer and score student assessments, providing valuable feedback.
  • Review material with students, adapting instruction to meet their needs.
  • Ensure students adhere to school and class rules, promoting a positive learning environment.
  • Implement the School-Wide Positive Behavior Support program, fostering a culture of respect and responsibility.
  • Prepare for lessons by gathering materials and setting up equipment, ensuring a smooth learning experience.
  • Track attendance, correct papers, and calculate grades, maintaining accurate records.
  • Perform clerical work to document student grades and other paperwork, ensuring compliance.
  • Enforce school-wide positive support program, disciplinary codes, and rewards, promoting a safe and supportive environment.
  • Perform classroom maintenance and instructional duties as assigned, contributing to a productive learning space.
  • Assist with activities like field trips, academic support sessions, and other events and programs, enhancing the student experience.
  • Supervise students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Utilize Microsoft Teams to receive important updates about education and Woods-wide events, staying informed and connected.
  • Document incidents using Care Logic, maintaining accurate records and promoting a culture of accountability.
  • Collaborate and follow feedback and rules related to the work setting, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and professionalism.
  • Attend scheduled team and staff meetings, staying engaged and informed.
  • Participate in scheduled in-service days and training courses, enhancing professional development and skills.
  • Adhere to all Woods policies and procedures, upholding the organization's standards and values.
  • Assist with the instruction of daily living skills in the students' home or school, as scheduled, promoting independence and self-advocacy.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of instructional techniques to promote student independence, such as prompt hierarchies.
  • Use escalation methods to support student problem behavior, such as Ukeru, promoting a safe and supportive environment.
  • Participate in school-based orientation, training, and meetings, staying engaged and informed.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with peers and management staff, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
Qualifications:
  • Proof of a High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 36 (2 years) college credits is required.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Previous experience as a paraprofessional, teaching assistant, or related position is preferred.
  • Participation in additional professional development training as requested.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
