About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Automation Specialist III to join our Controls & Automation team. This role will be responsible for performing all aspects of complete design of controls & automation engineering assignments, working as the technical lead or team member on various projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in controls and automation engineering, with experience in designing, implementing, testing, and commissioning automation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Familiarity with department standards and policies, including project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
- Providing on-site assistance during startup, coordinating work activities with other staff members and C&A Office Leaders.
- Producing estimate level automation system architecture designs, bill of material generation, control system installation specifications, and preliminary designs.
- Designing control systems with an emphasis on ease of maintenance, meeting client expectations, and consulting with design leaders from other disciplines.
- Reviewing vendor drawings, fabrication drawings, and construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Performing fieldwork, applying knowledge of discipline-specific methods, practices, and techniques, and estimating completion of assigned tasks.
- Developing control system installation specifications, a detailed engineering schedule, and a man-hour budget for small Controls & Automation projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration highly preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant industrial experience in controls and automation engineering.
- Experience in designing, implementing, testing, and commissioning automation projects.
- Knowledge of current version of ISA S88 programming standards, IEC 61131 programming languages, and OSHA 1910.119 Management of Change.
- Familiarity with specifications and installation details of equipment, ability to create accurate controls hardware installation documents, and develop equipment specifications.
- Ability to install and configure control system vendor software on various platforms, proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to lead a small team to deliver on commitments.
