Job Overview

Position Summary:
  • Responsible for the operation of various vehicles to execute all safety protocols, including but not limited to, manual transmission driving and tire chaining, while demonstrating proficiency in navigating diverse terrains and environmental conditions.
  • Tasked with the secure transportation of goods via tractor/trailer, adhering to all company policies and compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations regarding transportation and safety.
  • Must comply with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requirements for holders of a Commercial Driver's License.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Ensure the safe and legal transport of hazardous materials as required.
  • Safeguard the security of all equipment and cargo.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to confirm the operational safety of the vehicle.
  • Monitor gauges and indicators for any malfunctions, ensuring seals or locks on trailers are intact, and perform inspections before and during trips.
  • Promptly report maintenance issues to Fleet Services or supervisory personnel.
  • Verify unit numbers against provided documentation and report any inconsistencies to a supervisor.
  • May utilize in-cab technology, including electronic logging devices.
  • Flexibility to drive varied schedules and assist with dock work as business needs dictate.
  • Occasional over-the-road driving may be required, as approved by Safety.
  • Deliver professional and courteous service to customers and the public.
  • Assist with loading and unloading freight as necessary based on operational requirements.
  • Regular attendance is essential.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent background.
  • Must be at least 21 years old per FMCSA regulations (minimum one year of driving experience required).
  • Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License is mandatory.
  • Registration with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is required.
  • Residence within 75 miles of the terminal or work assignment is necessary.
  • HazMat, Tanker, and Doubles endorsements are required (LCV requirements may apply).
  • Ability to operate a tractor-trailer for durations that comply with FMCSA regulations.
  • Stable employment history is preferred.
  • Capability to operate a forklift (minimum 7,500 lb. vehicle).
  • Must be able to push or pull a loaded pallet jack and/or hand truck with a minimum load of 70 lbs.
  • Physical activities include standing, lifting, twisting, turning, and climbing.
  • Must be capable of dropping/hooking and coupling trailers, which involves cranking landing gear and pulling the 5th wheel pin requiring approximately 65 lbs. of pressure.
  • Must provide an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Familiarity with state motor vehicle laws and FMCSA regulations is essential.
  • Must pass a FMCSA-required medical examination.
  • Successful completion of a road test is required.
  • Ability to meet FMCSA's requirements for English comprehension and communication.
  • Must be able to lift approximately 70 lbs., or more as required by job functions.
  • Ability to drive on all routes and terrains, including mountains, steep inclines, and various weather conditions.
  • Must operate all safety and operational functions of equipment, including chaining tires and driving manual transmission vehicles.
  • Compliance with all company policies, rules, and procedures is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Must respond well to inquiries and interpret written information with a high level of comprehension.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and be subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing, as well as a criminal background check.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required.
