Responsibilities

We are actively seeking a Perioperative Nursing Specialist.

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA.
  • Understand the underlying pathophysiology of frequently encountered disease processes.
  • Comprehend the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions.
  • Develop a personalized perianesthesia care plan by:
  • Communicating the patient's current status throughout the perianesthesia continuum.
  • Evaluating the patient's medical history and surgical plan using established anesthesia protocols.
  • Interviewing pre-operative patients to collect essential data for admission.
  • Reviewing all preoperative test results and alerting physicians when results are abnormal or incomplete.

Serve as the primary contact for referral sources to facilitate screening and clearance of patients scheduled for procedures.

  • Understand medications and their effects, educating patients on which medications to take on the day of surgery.
  • Demonstrate safe operation of equipment and machinery, following procedures for reporting and rectifying unsafe situations.
  • Advocate for patient safety by voicing concerns.
  • Handle specimens according to facility policies.
  • Adhere to standard precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately, utilizing the 8 rights of safe medication administration.
  • Perform interventions to maintain the integrity of the patient's wound and tissue perfusion.
  • Provide nursing care and appropriate monitoring in accordance with policies.
  • Implement measures to protect patients from infection.
  • Manage co-morbid conditions as applicable.
  • Assess the knowledge level of the patient or designated support person.

Provide education on expected psychosocial responses, nutritional management, medical management, pain management, wound management, and anticipated responses to operative or invasive procedures.

Involve the patient or designated support person actively in decisions regarding their perioperative care plan and rehabilitation process.

Safeguard the patient's rights, dignity, and privacy.

Deliver age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards; comply with Universal Protocol and facility site validation policies.

Evaluate the patient's progress towards achieving outcomes.

Provide accurate, concise, and relevant hand-off reports to other team members regarding the patient's condition and response to care.

Delegate tasks in accordance with the state Nurse Practice Act and relevant regulations.

Document care episodes completely, accurately, and legibly.

Exhibit effective communication and collaboration skills with the perioperative team and other stakeholders.

Contribute as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning patient care.

Engage in quality review and performance improvement initiatives.

Participate in performance appraisal processes.

Utilize problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective working relationships with team members.

Maintain required competencies and pursue professional growth.

Act as a patient advocate, ensuring the privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.

Adhere to SCA and facility policies and procedures in patient care.

Actively participate in team meetings, training sessions, and daily safety huddles.

Demonstrate fiscal responsibility.

Perform all other assigned duties.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
  • One year of experience in pre-operative, PACU, and/or medical/surgical nursing preferred.
  • Current state licensure to practice in good standing.
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or proof of current certification.
  • Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment or proof of current certification.
  • Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course is required when pediatric care is included in the facility's scope of services within 90 days of employment or proof of current certification.
  • Specialty certification in Perioperative or Perianesthesia Nursing is preferred.

Compensation: USD $28.03/Hr. to USD $45.00/Hr.
