Job Summary
  • Provide comprehensive, quality nursing care through the application of the nursing process.
  • Adhere to Nursing Policies and Procedures and Organizational Goals and Objectives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Practice
    • Provide age-appropriate care for the population served, considering growth and developmental phases, age-related factors, and patient needs.
    • Use appropriate resources for patients with special needs, such as language barriers, sensory problems, altered cognition, cultural, and religious needs.
    • Ensure attention to patient's physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being.
    • Demonstrate competency in assessment skills, including admission and shift assessments.
    • Perform pain assessments and intervene to optimally meet patient needs for comfort.
    • Plan clinical care based on patient needs and use available resources.
    • Perform clinical care in accordance with policy and procedure.
    • Perform peripheral venipuncture and peripheral and central vascular access care according to policy and procedure.
    • Evaluate outcomes of nursing interventions and take appropriate actions to move patients toward reaching goals of care.
    • Identify situations that warrant patient rescue and take appropriate action.
    • Adhere to the 5 rights of medication administration and use the Medication Administration Check (MAK) system per policy and procedure.
    • Integrate principles of infection control and infection prevention into practice.
    • Adhere to aseptic technique as appropriate.
    • Use resources and references for reviewing policies and procedures, medications, and clinical information.
    • Prioritize and organize work effectively within assigned shift.
    • Adhere to CCH Joint Commission Disease-specific guidelines and core measures for patient care.
    • Implement nursing process for patients with complex medical needs.
  • Communication
    • Use effective communication during hand-offs.
    • Organize information into a meaningful format, such as SBAR.
    • Delegate appropriately to unlicensed personnel and team members.
    • Communicate patient care information to the interdisciplinary care team.
    • Provide patient and family education in a manner that is understood.
    • Utilize principles of Team Effectiveness and Commitment to Co-Workers.
  • Documentation
    • Document patient care in an accurate, professional, and timely manner using Soarian, MAK, and paper documentation forms according to policy and procedure.
    • Document patient care that is relevant to patient diagnosis, problems, and reflects patient status.
  • Professional Role Development
    • Develop own nursing knowledge via practice, observation, professional literature, networking, and attending continuing education programs.
    • Promote best practice by demonstrating a commitment to quality patient care and the profession of nursing.
    • Promote innovation and creativity in the practice environment.
    • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new employees.
    • Mentor student nurses.
    • Accept constructive feedback about performance or behaviors and show evidence of change.
    • Demonstrate verbal and writing skills that are appropriate for healthcare communication.
    • Adhere to the Department of Nursing Dress Code.
    Credentials
    • Registered Nurse - PA (Required)
    • Current Pennsylvania RN License
    • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
    Education or Equivalent Experience
    • Bachelor of Science Nursing (Required)
    • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN). Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program. Certification in clinical specialty preferred.
