About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Economist to join our team at Longwood University. As a key member of our Center for Applied Economics and Strategy, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining economic models and analysis methodologies to solve complex problems at the intersection of transportation, energy, and the environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain economic models and analysis methodologies to solve scientific, engineering, or economic problems
  • Obtain, process, and analyze technical data using statistical and modeling software to produce high-quality research
  • Collaborate with academic institutions and other research entities to implement the best available theory and methods in assessing environmental and economic outcomes
  • Effectively communicate insights in an understandable and usable form leveraging customized data visualization tools
  • Contribute to the design, execution, and communication of research on topics such as energy systems modeling, transportation systems, and environmental policy analysis
  • Collaborate effectively with project team members to manage workflow and meet client expectations
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree in a relevant field with relevant work experience or a Master's degree and five years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting economic analysis of transportation policy
  • Demonstrated programming, data management, and analysis skills, including experience with R, Python, JAVA, SAS, Stata, GAMS, or similar quantitative research software
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in policy analysis and applied economic modeling of the transportation sector
  • Demonstrated experience with programming in R
  • Interests in applied economic model development to evaluate transportation, energy, and environmental policy
  • Demonstrated experience in integrated assessment modeling, partial equilibrium modeling, computable general equilibrium, and/or other relevant optimization modeling experience
