Dietitian Professional: Comprehensive Nutrition Care

This role involves providing high-quality nutritional care to patients in hospitals, clinics, and related entities. Key responsibilities include assessments, care planning, monitoring, diet counseling, and making recommendations to physicians. All assessments must be documented electronically or on paper. Other duties may involve outpatient counseling, research, teaching, or community service, aligning with our mission and values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Refer to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Standards of Practice (SOP) and Standards of Professional Performance (SOPP) to evaluate individual skills and competencies for patient care.
- Develop additional skills through on-the-job training and tailored continuing education to enhance knowledge and skills obtained from formal education.
- Work independently to prioritize and provide routine medical nutrition therapy based on theoretical concepts and evidence-based standards of care.
- Use the nutrition screening process to determine the appropriate nutrition diagnosis and intervention for optimal patient outcomes.
- Coordinate all phases of nutrition care, including assessment, care planning, monitoring, education, and counseling for hospitalized patients in various settings.
- Support customer satisfaction initiatives, performance improvement plans, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory agencies.
- Provide care for patients with basic and complex medical conditions in assigned areas.
- Mentor dietetic interns and participate in departmental projects, suggesting new projects and participating in data collection.
- Participate in interdisciplinary healthcare teams, such as rounds, consultations, and teaching.
- Engage in community activities.
- Actively seek solutions to problems and systems issues.
- Complete assigned Performance Improvement Activities.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to network and departmental policies regarding employee, patient, and environmental safety.
- Provide exceptional customer service, demonstrating our service excellence standards in interactions with all customers.
- Demonstrate financial responsibility and accountability through efficient use of resources in daily procedures and practices.
- Meet or exceed productivity targets.
- Be willing to cover at other campuses as needed.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
Sitting for up to five hours per day, standing for up to two hours, walking for one hour, frequent computer use, writing, twisting, and rare lifting of objects weighing up to ten pounds.
Education:
Active dietetic registration through a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD), Dietetic Internship (DI) accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), and state licensure as required. A Master's degree is required by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (effective Jan. 1, 2024), or a Bachelor's degree grandfathered prior to this update.
Training and Experience:
Active dietetic registration and Pennsylvania state license maintained through the PA state nursing board.
Estimated salary range is $80,000 - $110,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
