Job Title: Elementary PE/Health Teacher

We are seeking a highly qualified Elementary PE/Health Teacher to join our team at West Virginia Department of Education.

Job Summary:

The Elementary PE/Health Teacher will be responsible for providing instruction to students in grades K-5, teaching physical education and health education, and promoting a culture of wellness and physical activity.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement the physical education and health education curriculum approved by the West Virginia Board of Education and adopted by the county Board of Education.
  • Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports.
  • Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
  • Work collaboratively with staff members and other physical education and/or health teachers in planning and implementing a balanced wellness program.
  • Provide individual and small group instruction to adapt the physical education/health/wellness curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Plan practice opportunities that are structured for maximum participation.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly productive environment in the physical education areas.
  • Effectively organize, space, equipment and students for optimal learning.
  • Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
  • Maintain care/responsibility for school-owned equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Inventory equipment and maintain proper condition and storage of equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Evaluate each student's growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution to team sports.
  • Prepare for and provide opportunities to participate in school, local, and regional competitions, contests and events as applicable.
  • Evaluate each student's growth and understanding by assessing each individual's contribution to class.
  • Actively participate in PLC's, collaborative teams, and grade level meetings.
  • Utilize county-approved online learning platforms to post grades, take attendance, enter discipline, and post assignments daily.
  • Establish and maintain standards of classroom management that foster a learning environment.
  • Provide individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students.
  • Maintain professional work habits and responsibilities.
  • Maintain and upgrade professional skills.
  • Meet all professional responsibilities.
  • Work in cooperation with the building principal and staff to support programs throughout the school.
  • Collaborate with other teachers to meet the goals of the school's strategic plan.
  • Report suspected abuse and neglect.
  • Utilize instructional management system models that increase student learning.
  • Demonstrate a deep and extensive knowledge of the subject matter being taught.
  • Communicate effectively with the educational community and parents/guardians on a regular basis.
  • Complete and submit all reports in a timely manner as required by law, the West Virginia Department of Education, and/or the county Board of Education.
  • Report the presence of any situation that may be harmful to the health and safety of the students and/or staff.
  • Implement state-mandated assessments required by the state.
  • Promote, encourage, and assist with school-wide and community wellness activities.
Salary and Benefits:

Salary and benefits will be based on experience and education level per Pocahontas County Schools salary schedule.
