About the Position

This is a unique opportunity to join the Department of the Air Force as a Food Service Worker. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional service to our customers while maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and maintain cafeteria lines, steam tables, and dining room tables with hot and cold food items.
  • Serve food cafeteria style and ensure that customers receive their meals in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Break down and clean the area after meals are complete, including washing dishes, utensils, and equipment.
  • Set up and operate dishwashers, perform preventive maintenance, and cleaning tasks.
  • Scrape, soak, scour, and scrub bowls, pots, and pans, as well as perform heavy-duty cleaning tasks such as ceilings, exhaust hoods, and under and behind kitchen equipment.
  • Wash floors and walls, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, and sanitize garbage cans.
  • Unload food from delivery trucks and collect and transfer trash from the work area to the disposal area.
  • Assemble and toss fresh fruit or green salads in quantity using prepared dressings and serve into standard serving sizes.
  • Make cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients and make coffee, tea, and other beverages.
Requirements
  • Must be able to follow simple oral instructions and use hand tools for cleaning and operate simple machines.
  • Must be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and use judgment in sequencing tasks.
  • Must have knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving food and for cleaning equipment and work area.
  • Must be physically able to frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to continuously stand and walk, and frequently stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend for long periods of time.
Working Conditions

Uncomfortably high temperature and humidity are created by steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing. Area is usually noisy and there is a danger of slipping on wet floors where food or beverage has been dropped. Exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezer units.
