Key Responsibilities of a Hospice Aide/CNA:

  • Report to the Administrator, Executive Director, or Patient Care Manager and work under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or Clinical Supervisor.
  • Assist patients in maintaining personal hygiene.
  • Help create a safe and healthy living environment.
  • Prepare and serve light meals.
  • Provide assistance with feeding when necessary.
  • Support patients in mobility and ambulation.
  • Aid in the safe use of mobility aids as instructed by nursing staff.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties such as emptying trash and changing linens.
  • Assist with specific treatments as outlined in the aide plan of care and compliant with state regulations.
  • Encourage patient engagement through activities of interest.
  • Offer basic emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
  • Report any changes in the patient's condition to the nursing staff and interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide basic care guidance to primary caregivers.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and standard precautions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of visits.
  • Attend team meetings.
  • Participate in at least one Quality Improvement initiative annually, as assigned.
  • Complete documentation promptly as per orientation guidelines.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications for Hospice Aide/CNA:

  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Comfortable providing care in various home settings.
  • Ability to remain calm and flexible in challenging situations.
  • Valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
  • Minimum of six months of patient care experience in hospice, home health, ICU, geriatric, or oncology preferred.
  • Additional relevant experience may include roles in hospital settings, critical care, or nursing homes.
  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance.
  • Current CPR certification.
