- Aseptic Technique: Apply principles of aseptic technique during surgical procedures, including proper scrubbing, gowning, and gloving of self and other surgical team members.
- Supply Management: Identify and obtain needed supplies and equipment, ensuring that all necessary items are available and in good working order.
- Quality Control: Assist in assuring correct sponge, needle, and instrument counts, ensuring that all surgical procedures are conducted with the highest level of quality and safety.
- Specimen Handling: Identify and label specimens appropriately, ensuring that all necessary information is accurately recorded and communicated to the medical team.
- Environmental Safety: Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to all relevant safety protocols and procedures.
- Post-Operative Cleaning: Clean up the operating room after each procedure, ensuring that all equipment and supplies are properly stored and maintained.
- Cart Maintenance: Maintain specialty carts, ensuring that all necessary supplies and equipment are available and in good working order.
- Competency Development: Maintain mandatory competencies, attending inservice education programs as assigned to learn new procedures and skills.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work effectively with other members of the surgical team, communicating clearly and respectfully to ensure seamless patient care.
- Professional Development: Seek help from professional staff when additional skills are required, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth.
- Job-Specific Knowledge: Demonstrate knowledge of and support hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards of care, policies, and procedures, as well as the code of ethical behavior.
- Patient-Centered Care: Provide patient-centered care, demonstrating knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possessing the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
- Additional Responsibilities: Perform other specific duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to meeting the needs of the surgical team and patients.
- Education: Associates Degree in Surgical Technology or Military Trained, with certification preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider required upon hire and ongoing.
- Experience: Previous experience in multiple surgical specialties is preferred.
- Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical instruments, and appropriate sterilization methods, as well as surgical procedures, special equipment, and supplies needed to properly anticipate surgeon's needs.
- Sedentary Work: Frequently required to stand, kneel, and crouch, with the ability to move about, sit, climb stairs, and bend on a daily basis. May be required to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Vision: Requires the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye, with near acuity, midrange acuity, and the ability to use hand and finger movement, handle or feel objects, and use tools or equipment that requires reaching with hands and arms.
- Speaking and Hearing: Ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening.
- Communication: Interact effectively with physicians, patients, and their families, and other Memorial Healthcare staff to provide appropriate and complete patient care.
- Professionalism: Maintain a professional and courteous manner, adhering to all relevant hospital policies and procedures.
- Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality, adhering to all relevant hospital policies and procedures.
