Job Summary

Clean and sanitize Memorial Healthcare facilities to maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation. Clean patient rooms, nursing units, surgical areas, administrative offices, and laboratory areas. Use various cleaning chemicals and disinfectants to wipe equipment, beds, clean furniture, dust/wet mop floors, and vacuum carpets. Responsible for making beds, emptying trash, and replenishing paper products. Collect dirty laundry from all patient areas.

Primary Job Responsibilities
  1. Clean assigned areas.
  2. Dust mop, mop, and vacuum in accordance with department procedures.
  3. Empty, clean, and sanitize all waste receptacles daily, except dirty utility receptacles, which should be cleaned once a month or more as needed.
  4. Clean water fountains daily and as needed.
  5. Damp wipe furniture.
  6. Clean windows, window sills, screens, and casings.
  7. Clean doors, door frames, and hinges.
  8. Spot wash walls when needed.
  9. Clean and polish mirrors.
  10. Clean restrooms, including tiles, chrome fixtures, mirrors, and vents.
  11. Replenish all supplies, such as paper towels, soap, tissues, and equipment, as needed.
  12. Clean patient rooms.
  13. Perform all cleaning tasks listed above.
  14. Thoroughly wash and sanitize beds, bedside stands, over-bed tables, desks, closets, and any other furniture in the room.
  15. Recheck walls, ceilings, and grids for total washings.
  16. Check the condition of the floor and notify the Department Head/Supervisor if the floor needs to be redone.
  17. Place tent cards and hang patient-ready signs on the door when finished.
  18. Maintain a full complement of supplies in carts for housekeeping closets; carts and closets must be fully stocked at the end of each shift.
  19. Prepare own cleaning solutions as needed, following directions accurately.
  20. Complete monthly side work on a timely basis, within the month due.
  21. Demonstrate knowledge of and support hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies, and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
Departmental and Additional Job Responsibilities

Attend meetings as required. Perform job duties at off-site locations as required.

Job Specifications
  1. High school graduate or GED required.
Essential Physical Abilities/Motor Skills
  1. Sedentary work: Frequently required to stand, kneel, and crouch. On a daily basis, may be required to move about, sit, climb stairs, and bend. Is frequently required to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. May be required to push/pull/carry items between lbs.
  2. Vision: Requires the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye. Near acuity: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Midrange acuity: Clarity of vision at distances of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet.
  3. Motor coordination: While performing the duties of the job, it is required to regularly perform functions that include using hand and finger movement, handle or feel objects, be able to use tools or equipment that requires reaching with hands and arms. Must be able to travel independently throughout the hospital; access patients/families including areas confined by space and/or equipment.
  4. Speaking/hearing: Ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening.
Essential Technical Abilities
  1. Proficiency using modern office, computer, and telephone equipment as used by Memorial Healthcare.
  2. Able to clean ceilings, walls, floors, and windows.
Essential Mental Abilities
  1. Ability to adapt and maintain focus in fast-paced, quickly changing, or stressful situations.
  2. Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents, including but not limited to policies, operating instructions, white papers, regulations, rules, and laws.
  3. Able to follow directions in order to learn work routine.
  4. Able to read product labels and follow directions.
  5. Able to document daily work.

  1. Able to see for the purpose of reading information received in formats including but not limited to paper, computer, reports, bulletins, updates, manuals.
  2. Able to hear for work-related purposes.
  3. Able to identify equipment malfunctions.
  4. Able to identify smells related to cleaning supplies.
