Technical Lead for Augmented Reality Innovation

Ravens create things that change the world. Now, we're pioneering a new kind of computer - one that blends into our natural surroundings rather than distracting us from them.

We're building RAVN Glass, a modular augmented reality headset designed to be worn all day in a stylish, lightweight form factor. Our custom spatial operating system enables intuitive user interactions with software and the world around users.

With functional prototypes already built, we aim to launch a pilot program early next year. Team members will soon wear prototypes outside the lab for consistent testing and feedback.

Our founder, Tom Suarez, has spent over 10 years wearing Google Glass and other customized AR/VR devices. Our pre-seed round was led by Draper Associates, and our team and advisors have extensive experience in augmented and virtual reality.

The Role

We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer focused on AR Prototyping to join our lean team in San Francisco.

Your work will contribute to creating a seamless user experience for RAVN Glass. We strive to make our smart glasses both highly-functional and well-designed – something people will genuinely want to wear.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prototype user experiences using various tools and technologies.
  • Develop applications and system software that incorporate intuitive user interfaces and real-time data from multiple sensors.
  • Write and test firmware for SoCs and microcontrollers on the device, utilizing physical tools like oscilloscopes and signal analyzers for debugging.
  • Prioritize usability and provide valuable feedback through real-world testing.
  • Occasionally travel to China for EVT and DVT builds at the Contract Manufacturer (CM).
Requirements:
  • At least 5 years of experience writing code in systems-level programming languages such as Rust or C.
  • 4+ years of experience developing augmented and/or virtual reality applications.
  • 2+ years of experience writing firmware for embedded devices in C, C++, or another applicable language, either in production or personal projects.
  • Familiarity with headworn displays, including augmented or virtual reality headsets, is essential.
  • Proven ability to design high-quality user experiences.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, especially when working within budget constraints.
  • Comfortable wearing prototypes outside the lab and prioritizing user experience.
  • A deep understanding of how people feel when using a product.
  • (Optional) Experience in early-stage startup environments.
  • (Optional) Knowledge of making wearables, with or without electronics.

**Estimated Salary: $150,000-$200,000 per year**, based on location and industry standards.
