We are seeking an experienced Inside Machinist to join our team at NSC Technologies in Norfolk, Virginia. As a pivotal member of our production environment, you will play a crucial role in the maintenance and repair of complex machinery, ensuring peak performance and safety.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will possess 2-5 years of experience as an Inside Machinist, with expertise in reading blueprints, operating various machine tools, and understanding mechanical systems, including engines and hydraulic controls. This position demands technical proficiency, collaboration skills, and adherence to strict safety protocols.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Technical Expertise: Read and comprehend blueprints, drawings, and other technical trade-related documents; possess mechanical ability, manual dexterity, and hand/eye coordination to perform various projects per drawings, sketches, and verbal or written instructions.
  • Machining Skills: Skilled in the selection, set-up, and operation of appropriate tool(s) for a given type of work; technical training preferred.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with others; be a steady, reliable worker who can comprehend and follow simple instructions.
  • Safety: Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to current or daily job duties.

Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Blueprint reading / technical writing- reports & records
  • Heat treating and shrinkage
  • Familiarity with measuring tools such as micrometers, height gauges, vernier calipers, and dividing heads
  • Operate machine tools in varying tolerances according to need (from half a thousand upwards)
  • Maintain and repair machines: lathes, bridge port millers, horizontal millers, vertical millers, surfacing machines, drill presses, boring mills, and shapers
  • Experienced with hoisting and rigging equipment for heavy pieces such as forklifts and chain falls
  • Hand scraping of bearings fitted to shafts using bluing
  • Gear cutting
  • Disassembled parts storage (bag and tag)
  • System tolerance determination and application
  • Rudders and Steering systems
  • Bearings and Bushings
  • Engines, Motors, and Generators
  • Propulsion Shafting
  • Seals
  • Valve work
  • Propellers
  • K. Pumps
  • Instruct lower classes of machinists
  • Manage work/personnel assignments

About the Role

This position offers a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $85,000 annually, depending on experience, plus benefits, including comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) retirement plan, direct deposit or Global Cash Card option, long-term job opportunities, referral bonuses for qualified candidates, and OSHA training and certification.
