Position Overview

This role is essential for the meticulous review and accurate assignment of codes for various professional services, including evaluation and management, as well as outpatient surgical procedures and observation cases.

Compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payer regulations is crucial to ensure proper reimbursement.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Required: High School diploma or equivalent
    • Preferred: Completion of an accredited coding program recognized by AHIMA or AAPC
  • Experience:
    • Required: Minimum of 1 year in coding
  • Certifications:
    • Preferred: Certification from AHIMA or AAPC

Skills and Abilities

Proficiency in computer operations and data entry is essential for managing patient information effectively. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary to convey information clearly to various stakeholders involved in patient care.

Familiarity with coding systems such as ICD-9-CM, ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS is required, along with excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately assign ICD-10, CPT, and/or HCPCS codes in accordance with established guidelines and regulations.
  • Types of coding responsibilities may include professional surgical coding and outpatient department coding.
  • Ensure the integrity of coded patient records by reviewing medical documentation to validate the accuracy of assigned codes.
  • Act as a resource for inquiries regarding patient accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Adhere to departmental productivity and accuracy standards consistently.
  • Engage with healthcare providers to clarify documentation as necessary.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Verify discharge dispositions based on medical documentation when appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
