The Charge Nurse is a Registered Nurse with unit lead responsibilities for patient flow and adjustment of unit staffing to meet the dynamic needs of the patients. This role requires a strong clinical leader who can make ongoing evaluations of patients' acuity, assessments of the staff nurses' workload, and anticipate fluctuations in admissions, discharges, and transfers.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate patient flow by triaging and prioritizing admissions and overseeing the care coordination of patients being discharged/transferred.
- Employ effective decision-making behaviors to safely balance changes in patient acuity and census with the availability, experience, and competency of the staff nurses.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate patient care stay progression and unit goals.
- Assume a patient assignment as determined by the needs of the unit.
- Clinical competence and experience in the care and management of target patient populations specific to the area of employment.
- 2-3 years of related clinical experience is required, unless approved by the Unit Manager.
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing is required.
- Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact).
